Pieskowa Skała Castle stands in the village of Sułoszów, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the valley of the Prandnik River in the Ojców National Park. The origins of the castle date back to the deep Middle Ages, with the first certain reference to the fortress being in 1315 in the document, issued by Wladislaw Lokietek. During the reign of Casimir III the Great (1333-1370), the castle was expanded and included in the so-called "Eagle's Nests" chain. Eagle's Nests - a network of castles, defending the borders of the Kingdom of Poland. From the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 17th century, the castle belonged to the powerful Szafraniec family, and one of its representatives in 1542-1580 turned the fortress into a Renaissance residence - one of the most beautiful in Poland. In the 17th century, the castle acquired the appearance of a military castle, with the introduction of bastion fortifications. It is worth mentioning, that during the January Uprising (1863-1865), two battles took place near the castle between Polish and Russian troops. Attempts were made to rebuild the castle in the 19th and 20th centuries, until 1939. After the Second World War, the castle was nationalized and in 1950-1963 continuous reconstruction was carried out. Right next to the castle is the so-called Hercules tail (Pol. Maczuga Herkulesa).
An uncomplicated, large, painstaking, well-designed and moderately detailed model of a rugged and beautiful castle for modellers of all experience. Only the less experienced should work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and take their time. And the more experienced, using the second edition and the photos of the original, available on the Internet, can make a real architectural masterpiece. The model reproduces the current appearance of the castle with partial relief, on which it stands. The graphic instructions, although not too large, are quite clear, informative and easy to understand, the textual instructions are also not small and perfectly complement the drawings.
