The water tower in Oleśnica, designed by Adolf Thiem, was built in 1896–1897 as part of the construction of the city's water supply network. Until the 19th century, Oleśnica had two open water hydrants for its residents, which were supplied with water via a special channel from the Oleśnica River in the vicinity of Spalice. The lack of a water supply system and dependence on open water sources led to several cholera epidemics in the city (in 1830, 1837, 1849, 1850, 1866). The first attempt to extract groundwater, was made at the turn of 1883–1884, but without satisfactory results. Later, sources of unpolluted water were discovered in the marshy meadows near the City Park. Initially, eight wells were drilled in this area (the final number in the 20th century was 17). The waterworks and the tower needed to maintain the pressure in the city network were designed by engineer Adolf Thiem. He used an innovative (at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries) ceiling construction technique of composite thick-walled sheets. From the water inlets, water was fed into the waterworks, where it was filtered (among other things, due to the high iron content). From here, it was pumped into the city network and hand hydrants on the streets, as well as into a reservoir and a water tower. The entire waterworks system, with floodplains and connections to all houses, was completed in 1912. The city's sewage system was completed four years earlier. In 1993 or 1994 and in 2020, the reservoir in the tower was repaired and renovated. The tower is part of a water and wastewater treatment plant.

An uncomplicated, fairly well-detailed and attractive water tower model for modelers of any experience. It is perfect for beginners and those, who are going to do modeling on their own. Three weekend days off and You have a great building model in Your collection, with which You can perfectly participate in a competition and even win prizes. There are almost no text instructions, the graphic ones are also not from the top ten, but they are detailed. What is missing - a reserve of colors and textures, which are sometimes simply necessary for a beginner modeler.
