YMS (abbreviation - Yard Minesweeper) - a type of US base minesweepers and destructive ships of World War II. Minesweepers of this type were put into operation from the first half of 1942 and a total of 561 ships of this type were built! Their length was 41.9 meters and width - 7.45 meters. The displacement was about 320 tons, and the maximum speed was about 12-13 knots. They were armed with different armament options, but very often it consisted of one 76.2 mm cannon, two 20 mm “Oerlikon” type cannons and acoustic and contact mines and their search and destruction equipment. YMS minesweepers were intended for mass production from the beginning, so their design was as simple as possible. Moreover, ships of this type were mostly made of wood, which, on the one hand, reduced production costs, and on the other hand, such a solution was an excellent protection against magnetic mines. During production, three main variants of the YMS minesweeper were created, differing in the number of chimneys: the Mark I version had two chimneys, the Mk. II had only one, and the Mk. III had none at all. During World War II, minesweepers of this type served, among others, in the USA, Great Britain, the USSR, and the Free French Fleet. After the end of hostilities, four ships of this type were purchased by Poland in 1947. Three of them (ORP: "Foka", "Delfin" and "Mors") were transferred to the Navy, and one ("Zodiak") became a hydrographic vessel.
A small, medium-complexity, well-designed and excellently externally detailed model for medium-experienced and experienced modelers. There is a color reserve, but very small in the middle of the detail sheets, the graphic instructions are excellent, the textual instructions are quite large and describe the entire gluing process of the model quite well. The model recreates the appearance of a US minesweeper, that participated in the Korean War.
