The new AH-64D is a fully "digital" version of the excellent AH-64A "Apache" attack helicopter, which had partially analog electronics. The helicopter was very effective, and already after the successful participation in the "Desert Storm" operation, they began to think about its modernization. Already in 1991, its first manufacturer suggested changing the radio station to a "digital" one, installing a GPRS receiver and other minor modifications, as well as replacing some lines with digital instead of analog navigation systems. Also, the helicopter's metal bearing blades had to be replaced with composite ones. The new version was designated the AH-64B and its program began, but was soon abandoned. But during subsequent repairs, all these changes were made to almost all version A helicopters. An even more extensive modification program was launched, which resulted in the AH-64C version. In them, almost all electronics have been replaced with newer and wider capabilities, and a completely new targeting and target tracking system has been installed. Installation of new engines with higher power has also started. These changes improved the view from the cabs and increased the reliability of the machine. On March 11, 1991, the AH-64D version of the helicopter took off for its first flight with only a mock-up of the radar over the propeller. The first real helicopter of this modification took to the air on April 15, 1992. After the tests in 1995, the USA ordered the rebuilding of the first of 597 helicopters and 16 new D-version machines. These helicopters were bought by Holland, Israel, Kuwait, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Singapore, Japan. Now the number of "Apaches' of all versions produced is 1637 units.
A complex, beautiful and well-designed and richly detailed model of the Israeli AF attack helicopter AH-64D-1" Saraph". A model for real "aces" of flying technique.
