"Cap San Diego" – the German bulk carrier or dry cargo ship, built in 1962. Currently it is a museum ship and hotel, in 2006 it was completely restored and has been operating since 2006. Often called the "White Swan of the Atlantic". "Cap San Diego" was built at the Hamburg "Deutsche Werft" shipyard according to the project of naval designer Cesar Pinno. The ship was launched on 27 March 1962 and joined the Hamburg-based “Hamburg Süd” company fleet. It was the last of a series of six “Cap San”-class cargo ships: “Cap San Antonio”, “Cap San Augustin”, “Cap San Lorenzo”, “Cap San Marco” and “Cap San Nicolas”. It was a cargo and passenger ship with cabins for 12 people. On 29 March 1962 the “Cap San Diego” embarked on its maiden voyage. Over the course of twenty years, the ship made approximately 120 voyages between Hamburg and South America. When “Hamburg Süd” began using larger ships, the “Cap San Diego” was sold to company “Yabarra” in 1981. The company operated the ship until 1986. The ship was sold and, under the name “Sangria”, sailed on her final voyage, after which she was sent to scrap. The ship was scheduled to be cut up in 1987. The city of Hamburg purchased the “Cap San Diego” with the intention of turning it into a museum and tourist attraction. On October 31, 1986 the ship was returned to the harbor and moored next to the sail ship “Rickmers”.
A large, well-designed and richly detailed model for medium-experienced and experienced modelers. Where necessary, double-side printing is used, there are very different amounts of colors reserves, but they are small. There are no textual instructions at all, but the graphical ones are quite large, informative, clear and easy to read - just like that, I wish all models had one!!!
