The Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) is a bird of the wagtail family (Motacillidae). It is slightly smaller, than the yellow wagtail, but the Grey Wagtail tail is longer, than the body, the back is bluish-gray, and the rump is yellow. The upper half of the male's body is gray. The rump is yellowish-green. The tail and wings are brownish-black. The marginal tail feathers are white; the other two pairs of feathers are white-spotted. The eyebrow and "moustache" are white. The throat and rump are black, and the rest of the lower body is yellow. The bill is black. The legs are brownish. The iris is dark brown. The eyebrow and "moustache" of the female are indistinct. The throat and chest are with white spots. When perching calmly, the male's eyebrow is indistinct, the throat and rump are white-brown. The throat and rump of the female are completely white. The young resemble adults at rest, except that the tail is yellow. The range in Eurasia is difficult to determine. In Europe, it is widespread in southern Scandinavia, in mountainous regions from the Pyrenees to the Crimea. In the north, the range reaches the western coast of the Baltic Sea, the Kola Peninsula, and in the south extends to the Mediterranean coast. In Asia, it is widespread in the Asia Minor region, in the Caucasus, Kopetdag, Iranian and Afghan mountains, Hindu Kush, Tian Shan, Pamir, Altai mountain systems. From the western foothills of the Urals in Siberia, it is widespread to the Kolyma Range, the Okhotsk and the coast of the Sea of Japan. In the north, the range reaches the Yamal Peninsula, the lower Yenisei, and in the south extends to Altai and the lower Hwangha. It lives in North Africa, on some islands of the Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea. It’s winters in Africa, the Near and Middle East. In Lithuania, it is occasionally found during migration in autumn or spring.
