Sukhoi Su-27SKM – the USSR/ Russian heavy fighter-interceptor

Sukhoi SU-27 (NATO: "Flankier") is a Soviet and Russian twin-engine heavy fighter-interceptor, designed to gain air superiority. The first prototype flight took place in May 1977. The SU-27 aircraft was developed as a response to the introduction of the F-15 “Eagle” in the US Air Force. The project of the SU-27 was successful. Its great fame was due to the amazing "Saturn-Liulka AL-31F" engines, which create 12,500 kg of thrust with the afterburner on, are easy to maintain and can be replaced each other. In addition, unlike many previous Soviet designs, the SU-27 has a long service life, reaching up to 3,000 hours, with technical inspections carried out every 100 hours of operation. This aircraft is at least comparable to the corresponding versions of the F-15 or PANAVIA "Tornado" ADV. The SU-27 is armed with AA-73 "Archer" short-range missiles and long-range R-27 missiles, as well as a 30 mm GSh-30-1 cannon, also used on the MIG 29. Its advantages are high accuracy and rapid fire (1,500 rounds per minute), the disadvantage is the short service life of the drum, which needs to be replaced after 80 seconds of shooting! The standard radar of the SU-27 is the RLPK-27. The SU-27, along with the MIG 29, is the main fighter of the Russian Federation Air Force. To date, several dozen versions of this aircraft have been created. The following are noteworthy: the SU-27, designated as the SU-27S, i. e. the main version of the fighter, and the SU-27SK, - the export version.
