The Arch-Cathedral Basilica of Saint Stanislaw Kostka in Łódź was built in 1901-1912 in the Neo-Gothic style. The construction committee was formed back in 1895 and included the biggest manufacturers of Lodz: Julius Theodor Heinzel, Edvard Herbst, Julius Kunitzer, Jozef Richter and Adolf Hofrichter. The cornerstone was consecrated on June 16, 1901 by the archbishop of Warsaw, Vincent Choščiak – Popiel. The characteristic stone church of yellow unplastered bricks was built in 11 years according to the project of the Lodz company "Wende i Zarskie". The co-author of the project was the architect Emil Zilman from Berlin, the decoration of the neo-gothic facades of the Cathedral was done by the Viennese architect Siegfried Stern, the construction was supervised by the architect Jozef Dziekonski from Warsaw and Slawomir Odzywolski from Krakow. The three-nave cathedral with the highest central nave and cloister (circumventing the presbytery) looks like the German Ulm Cathedral. This shrine is the tallest building in Łódź (tower height reaches 104.5 meters) and one of the tallest churches in all of Poland. In the belfry delivered to the church in 1911, the bell "Zygmunt" was erected, donated by the residents of Lodz. In 1927, the bell was moved to the newly introduced tower. In 1922, the church became a Cathedral, it was consecrated by Vincent Tyminski. In 1935 - 1936, a crypt was built in the dungeons of the Cathedral, where the remains of the bishops of Lodz rest. In November 1941, the Cathedral was looted by the German occupiers, the "Zygmunt" bell was requisitioned, and the building was turned into a military warehouse. After the liberation in 1945, the ruins were repaired, the main altar was restored. A fire in 1971 destroyed the roof structures and the organ, but the Cathedral was quickly restored and a new 58-register organ was installed in 1972. On September 18, 2011, the "Heart of Lodz" bell, which was supposed to replace "Zygmunt", was raised in the then belfry. On June 1, 2012, the bell was placed in the Cathedral tower, and on June 10, the "Heart of Lodz" rang for the first time. Two smaller bells, called St. WladislaW and St. Signatures of Irenius. In 1998, Pope John Paul II granted the church the title of minor basilica, and in 1992, it was elevated to the rank of Archcathedral. In 2000, the Łódź Cathedral became the main church of the Łódź Archdiocese for the great rites of the 2000th anniversary of Christianity. During these holidays, a monument to Pope John Paul II was unveiled in front of the Cathedral.
A large, well designed and richly detailed model of a beautiful Cathedral, intended for intermediate and advanced modellers only. With a second magazine, this publication can be turned into an architectural model - a masterpiece, but this will require a lot of photos, patience and effort.
