The submarine "UB-16" was launched at the A. G. Weser shipyard in Bremen. The ship's building began in 1914, was launched on April 16, 1915, and entered service in the Kaiserliche Marine on May 12, 1915. It was one of 20 "UB-1" type submarines, 17 of which served i the Kaiserliche Marine (from 1 to 17), the other three (U-18 - U20) were intended for the Austro-Hungarian Navy. It was a small single-hull ship 27.88 meters long, with a surface displacement of 127 tons and a submerged displacement of 141 tons. The ship was powered by a four-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine "Korting", developing 60 h. p. and a 120 h. p. electric motor. These engines turned a single three-bladt propeller. "UB-16" developed a speed of 6.5 (according to other sources - 7.45 knots) above the water, and 5.5 knots (other sources - 6.24 knots). The ship's cruising range on the surface reached 1650 nautical miles, 45 nautical miles underwater. The crew consisted of 15 or 14 people. The ship was armed with two forward 450 mm caliber torpedo tubes and two 8 mm machine guns. It could dive to a depth of 50 meters. The ship carried out 87 combat patrols, sank 24 cargo ships with a total tonnage of 18711 gross registered tons and the British destroyer HMS "Recruit" and seriously damaged the Norwegian steamer "Kongsli". She sank on May 10, 1918, when she was torpedoed by the British submarine HMS E34 in the North Sea. 15 sailors died, only captain Vicco von der Luche survived.
A simple, well-designed and maximally detailed model for modelers of any experience. It will also suit for modelers with a little experience, but it is recommended, that they work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. Some parts are printed double-sided. The textual instructions are quite large and detailed, and in this case the graphic ones should only be used as a supplement. But they are also very detailed.
