„Pospieshnyj“ – the Russian tender

The keel of the tender "Pospieshnyj" was laid at the Nicholas Admiralty Shipyard on March 18, 1844. Its building was supervised by master A.S. Akimov. After the building was completed, on September 9, 1845 it was included in the composition of the Black Sea Fleet. Lieutenant G. I. Butakov, the future admiral, hero of the defense of Sevastopol and creator of the tactics of the steam fleet, is appointed as the first captain of the tender. Until 1850 Butakov, in command of a tender, carried out hydro-graphic work - explored the Russian and Turkish coasts of the Black Sea, the Bosporus Strait. These works were quite dangerous, because the tender carried out daring reconnaissance operations, and had to run away from Turkish ships more, than once. On the basis of these expeditions, Butakov compiled a map of the Black Sea with plans of 36 of its ports. For the excellent performance of the task, the commander of "Pospieshnyj" was promoted to captain and awarded the Order of Saint Anna, 3rd degree. In 1852 - 1853 the tender, under the command of Lieutenant A. N. Andreev, covered  with fire the amphibious landings on the coast of the Caucasus, carried out patrols as part of the Black Sea Fleet. In 1853 - 1855, under the command of A. B. Aslanbegov, it participated in the Crimean War as a messenger and patrol ship. On August 27, 1855, while the Russian ships were retreating from Sevastopol, he was sunk at the port gate.
